No talk

in August 31, 2025

This man, in his 40s, came in for a massage, his first time at this space. As usual, I invited him to sit down for a brief conversation before starting, but he preferred not to.

He seemed guarded and not very at ease. He had no prior experience with this kind of therapeutic massage, and carried with him memories of past experiences, in other contexts, that hadn't gone well and had left him more reserved and less trusting in new environments.

It's common to see people who, after a difficult experience, lose the ability to recognize a safe environment even when they're in one.

At first, he couldn't really enjoy the massage, because he wasn't able to truly relax. Little by little, he started to loosen up. Until, eventually, he realized there was nothing to fear. By the last few minutes, he was talking more freely and even smiling.

What a change, from the first minutes he arrived to the moment he said goodbye.

I'm always glad to be part of that kind of shift, helping someone feel safe again is often the first real step toward genuine relaxation.
